Magic Marlborough

Marlborough, at the top of New Zealand’s South Island, is a gourmet and scenic paradise, and a must-see for any traveller.

As New Zealand’s largest wine region and with over a fifth of the country’s coastline, Marlborough also boasts some of the sunniest weather in New Zealand.

Just a short distance across Cook Strait from New Zealand's capital city of Wellington, Marlborough’s largest town is Blenheim, where most domestic flights land. The other main settlements are Picton and Havelock, both are seaport towns in the Marlborough Sounds, approximately 25-30 minutes drive from Blenheim:

  • Picton is the main gateway to the Queen Charlotte Sound
  • Havelock is the main access to the Pelorus Sound and Kenepuru Sound.

There’s heaps to do in Marlborough - whether you enjoy wine and food, want to get out on the water, like to be active, have a creative side, want to learn about local history and culture, are into cars and planes, or just want to soak up the sunshine and stunning scenery.

Marlborough quite simply has it all.

Getting to Marlborough is easy, with regular flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, plus linking flights from smaller centres. There are also daily ferries from Wellington to/from Picton, regular trains to/from Christchurch and excellent roads linking Marlborough with Kaikoura, Hanmer Springs, Christchurch, Nelson and the West Coast of the South Island.

Events in Marlborough happen throughout the year, there’s plenty to see and do. You could time a visit with one of the many regular events not to be missed, such as:
